Event Marshals
Approximately 1-2,000 people take part in the event including 450 competitors, their families and friends, and 30 commercial sponsors. The whole event would not exist without 80 volunteers every year, giving up their time for free. The most important of these are the 65 marshals, who give up their Sunday morning from an unearthly hour to help, encourage and ensure the health and safety of all concerned. They stay out in all weathers so that all visitors have a great day.
We cannot tell you how much we appreciate volunteer marshals for the race. Volunteering
helps the great causes the event supports.
"When I came round I thanked the pilots and the paramedics, but in the years since I've realised I should thank every individual who raises funds to keep the ambulance flying."
Marshals will be arranged around the race circuit
with several being in the grounds of Wellington College where
the cross country 5k will take place. An essential area for marshals
is the road race as the cyclists will leave the Wellington grounds
for the 17k ride. Last year we had 65 Marshals from friends and family through to groups from the local Lions, Rotary, Round Table, 41 Club and many other organisations. They helped make the event so successful both in terms of the high amounts raised for the charities and the comments from the competitors. Another very popular volunteer will be whoever offers to sponsor,
and provide transport for, Marshals' refreshments!
